Below you can find some important numbers for the Greater San Diego area. First-time visitors should note that while 1 plus the (800) toll-free area code always must be dialed, sometimes 1 may be required before the local area code (619) when calling a San Diego number from within the Greater San Diego area. Sometimes 1 is not required when calling the neighboring (858) area. In any event, the Greater San Diego area has 10-digit dialing which requires that an area code precede all phone numbers dialed. Fortunately, recorded messages from the local phone company will intercept incorrectly dialed calls, and provide the correct dialing instructions for the number attempted.
